Quirino Awards 2026 Nominees

Yesterday, the nominees for the 2026 Quirino Awards were announced, highlighting the feature films Soy Frankelda by Arturo and Roy Ambriz (Mexico), Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake by Irene Iborra (Spain / Belgium / Chile / France / Switzerland), Decorado by Alberto Vázquez (Spain / Portugal), and Coração das Trevas by Rogério Nunes (Brazil / France).
On this occasion, the Quirino Awards once again recognize outstanding productions from across the Ibero-American animation industry.
The Quirino Awards are an initiative created to recognize the best of Ibero-American animation, with which Pixelatl has collaborated since its creation nine years ago. In 2026, the awards ceremony will take place in Tenerife, Spain.
Among other Mexican projects (or projects involving Mexican creators) nominated this year are the Mexico–United States production Mujeres con hombreras (Gonzalo Córdova), nominated for Best Animated Series, and the Argentine–Mexican production My Gut Friend (José Manuel Lo Bianco and Mariano Andrés Bergara), nominated for Best Animation Design of an Ibero-American Work.
Additionally, animator Andrea León Gutiérrez co-directed, together with Gabriela Rojas Bustos and Sascha Schmit, the short film Wing Shop, which received a nomination for Best Ibero-American Animation School Short Film (BAU Centro Universitario de Artes y Diseño, Barcelona).
And although it is a fully Argentine production, the short Encanta el Mundo (Pablo R. Roldán) also feels especially close to us (for obvious reasons), as it was developed for Pixelatl 2025 and received a nomination in the Commissioned Animation category.
The Quirino Awards ceremony will take place on April 17 and, as every year, will be streamed live on YouTube.
