Aria Covamonas was a filmmaker and animator, a key figure in experimental animation in Mexico. Her work has been recognized worldwide, and her animated collage feature film The Great History of Western Philosophy was selected at Annecy this very year. Shortly afterward, we learned of her unexpected passing. We believe the best tribute to an artist is to know and appreciate their work.

Synopsis

A cosmic animator is hired by the Central Committee of the People’s Republic to make a philosophical film based on an original idea by Chairman Mao, who decides before production even begins that he dislikes the film and condemns the animator to death just like that. Breathe easy, though—the sentence was never carried out thanks to the intervention of Monkey and Pig, the heroes of Journey to the West.
